Semax® 1% instruction
Semax® - 1%
Synthetic heptapeptide Semax is an analog of ACTH4-10 fragment (methionyl-glutamyl-histidyl-phenylalanyl-prolyl-glycyl-proline), devoid of hormonal activity. All amino acids are L-shaped.
Semax 1% is a "First Aid" after stroke. Due to its form (nasal drops) the drug begins to act instantly, preventing the nerve cells from damage and minimizing the consequences of acute brain blood supply disruption. Semax also prevents from repeated strokes and removes post-depression depression.
Semax is absorbed from the nasal mucosa. At least 60-70% of the active substance is absorbed. Semax is quickly distributed into all organs and tissues and penetrates the blood-brain barrier.
Recovery period after a stroke; acute period of ischemic stroke; transient ischemic attacks; acute period of TBI (traumatic brain injury).
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, acute psychotic states, disorders accompanied by anxiety, endocrine system diseases, pregnancy and lactation.
Dosage and administration
Semax is applied intranasally.
As a first aid in the first minutes and hours of a stroke (pre-hospital stage) put 3 drops in each nasal passage every 20 minutes before hospital admission.
At the stage of treatment in the hospital Semax 1% is applied:
- Moderately severe stroke: 3 drops in each nasal passage 4 times a day for 10 days (interval between drops instillations should be 3-4 hours).
- Severe stroke: 3 drops in each nasal passage 6 times a day for 10 days (interval between drops instillations should be 2,5-3 hours).
Transient ischemic attacks (TIA) treatment (at the hospital stage): 3 drops in each nasal passage 3-6 times a day for 10 days.
Prolonged use may cause a mild irritation of the nasal mucosa.
No symptoms of overdose were identified after a significant dose increase.
Interaction with other drugs
Taking into account the method of Semax administration (intranasal), it is undesirable to use other intranasal agents with a local vasoconstrictive effect.
Due to the chemical structure of Semax, there are no chemically incompatible combinations: the drug is rapidly destroyed and does not enter the digestive tract.
Pregnancy and lactation: Contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation.
