Tricardin is a combination herbal medicine containing valerian rhizomes with roots, motherwort herb and hawthorn leaves.

The preparation has a sedative effect and can be used to treat hyperirritability and sleep and anxiety disorders.

The drug is based on a complex of biologically active substances, including valepotriates, iridoids, flavonoids, procyanidins, glycosides, essential oils, etc.

Valerian. Valerian acid and valepotriates have a sedative and antispasmodic effects. The biologically active substances of valerian have multiple effects. In particular, valerian inhibits the central nervous system, reduces its excitability and promotes the natural sleep. Sedative effects are slow to develop but stable. The biologically active substances of valerian slow heart rate and dilate coronary vessels. Valerian has choleretic effect and increases secretory activity of the gastrointestinal tract. The desired therapeutic effect of the drug is achieved following systematic long-term administration.

Hawthorn. Flavonoids and procyanidins, the active ingredients of hawthorn leaves, have cardiotonic and antiarrhythmic effect. It is acknowledged that hawthorn leaves also contain triterpenic acids (oleanolic, ursolic and crataegolic) that improve brain and coronary vessels blood supply and enhance myocardial sensitivity to cardiac glycosides.

Motherwort. The active ingredients of motherwort herb are flavonoid glycosides (rutin, cosmosiin, quercetin, hyperoside, etc.), alkaloids (stachydrine 0.4%, choline and leonurine), saponins, tannins (ca. 2%), iridoid monoterpenes (leonuride) and ascorbic acid. Motherwort has a sedative and hypotensive, cardiotonic and negative chronotropic effect. It alleviates the disease in patients with cardiovascular disorders, including high blood pressure, stenocardia, cardiosclerosis and myocarditis, heart palpitations and heart failure.

Tricardin’s cardiotropic and sedave effect is provided by three well-known and widely used medicinal plants – valerian, motherwort and hawthorn, which mildly correct the autonomic dysfunction in patients with neurocirculatory asthenia and vegetative neurosis.

Scientists in Ternopil cardiology centre performed clinical trials on several experimental formulations containing the abovementioned herbs in various proportions. The trials showed that while different herb proportions led to low therapeutic effect or to excessive hypotensive and sedative effect, the Tricardin’s herb proportion helped to stabilise the balance between the sympathetic nervous system and the parasympathetic nervous system, reduce anxiety and improve clinical symptoms of cardiopsychoneurosis and microvascular angina.

Moreover, you can buy Tricardin for the stabilisation of blood pressure, as well as antiarrhythmic effect.
