Phenibut Dosage for Anxiety

August 31, 2023

Phenibut has recently emerged as a promising solution for anxiety relief. Many people who use the drug report an immediate sense of calm and improved mental well-being. Some even reported their anxiety settled within seconds!

However, phenibut is not free of side effects. Inappropriate or excessive consumption can lead to dizziness, addiction, poisoning, and even comas. In fact, during the years 2009 to 2019, the US poison center reported 1,320 calls for phenibut poisoning.

Given this, it’s very important to pay attention to your phenibut dosage. In this brief guide, we’ll explain how to determine a good dosage for yourself and what health experts recommend. Let’s dive in!

What Is Phenibut?

Phenibut is a synthetic compound developed in the Soviet Union in the 1960s. It is derived from γ-Aminobutyric acid (GABA) and is believed to be a GABAergic agent. When it enters the body, it targets GABA receptors in the brain to produce calming and anxiolytic effects.

As of yet, it is not approved by the FDA for medical use in the United States, but it is not banned, either (like cannabis-derived products). This is why you can easily get it from a US supplier of phenibut as a dietary supplement.

But regardless of the ease of availability, we highly recommend researching the manufacturer’s reputation at the time of purchase. That’s because unlike medical drugs, supplements are not strictly regulated by the FDA, meaning unscrupulous companies can easily sell mislabeled or ineffective products.

Factors to Consider Before Determining Dosage

To find a safe and effective dosage of phenibut for your personal use, we recommend considering the following factors:

Sensitivity to Phenibut

Every individual’s response to phenibut can vary due to differences in body chemistry, genetics, and overall sensitivity to the compound. For some people, small doses may be enough to relieve anxiety, while others may require high amounts to achieve the same effect.

So, it is essential to recognize this variability. Most experts recommend starting with a small dosage and observing the effects on your body. Taking the minimum required dosage for a week should give you more than enough time to gauge its effects on your system.

Experience

People who have consumed phenibut (or similar substances) before may have an idea of their optimal dosage based on their previous experience. It’s okay to jump onto this ‘optimal dosage’ from day two of consumption.

Severity of Anxiety

Mild anxiety may respond to a low dose of phenibut, while severe or chronic anxiety may require a higher dose to achieve adequate relief. So, be sure to know your specific anxiety symptoms and tailor the dosage accordingly.

Other Medications

If you are already taking medications for another other health issue, do not consume phenibut without your doctor’s approval. Phenibut can react with other medical substances and worsen underlying health issues.

For example, if you’re already taking antihypertensive medicines to lower your blood pressure and you consume phenibut, you might experience excessive blood pressure reduction. This, in turn, can lead to dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting.

So, avoid consuming phenibut with the following medications:

  • Antihypertensive medications
  • Antidepressants
  • Central nervous system depressants
  • Anticonvulsants
  • Stimulants

Recommended Phenibut Dosage for Anxiety

People who have never tried phenibut before should usually start with a really low dosage (many users recommend 250 to 500 milligrams). This initial dose allows individuals to determine their response and sensitivity to the compound. You can increase the dosage over time, but continue to monitor the effects. The optimal dosage for anxiety relief has typically been reported to range from 500 milligrams to 1,500 milligrams per day.

In addition, veteran phenibut users advise against consuming more than 500 milligrams of phenibut at a time. This means a dose of 1,000 milligrams to 1,500 milligrams should be divided into two to three smaller doses. Also, it’s not recommended to consume 1,500 milligrams in a day or take phenibut more than three times a week.

If you exceed these limits, you’re likely to develop phenibut addiction. This means you might experience severe withdrawal symptoms if you stop taking the nootropic. These withdrawal symptoms may include:

  • Insomnia
  • Irritability
  • Restlessness
  • Rebound anxiety
  • Mood swings

This can have a negative impact on your mental health and worsen the quality of your life instead of improving it.
